INTERVIEWED || Luna Webster (((Singer/Songwriter)))

    If you're a follower of my blog then you know I interviewed the darling Luna Webster a couple of months ago. With news of Luna's EP being recorded, her horizons have been extremely broadened so I delved into the pool to get the latest news from the lady herself! Hope you enjoy this little interview, all social links for Luna will be listed below. Check her out, shes wonderful and I'm excited to hear the EP myself!

1. What message are you portraying (if any) with you EP?

    Each of the songs on there has a different message really. It starts with 'Hollywood May Be Dead', the title track, which is all about lust for somebody who really isn’t good for you, or lust for something that isn’t good for you, and knowing that it’s dangerous, but continuing with it anyway. It’s my favourite track on there because I think everyone has experienced something like that in their life. Apart from that it’s all about being glamorous and fabulous which is always fun to sing about. Then you’ve got 'Cold Winter/No Coat' which is easily the cheeriest song I have ever written. It’s pleasant. If it has any message it’s just that it’s ok to need somebody sometimes. Third on the EP is 'Diamonds and Psychiatrists' which is about greed and narcissism and depression which is not such a happy subject but it’s easily my second favourite track on the EP, because I feel it’s discussing things that somebody my age would normally not be expected to discuss. And finally there’s 'I’m Your Rock and Roll Girlwhich isn’t quite a love song, more of a lust song, it’s pretty saucy actually. So there’s messages in the individual songs but not on the whole. I’d like people to take their own messages anyway because music is heard differently by each person.

2. If you could make one of your songs into a single and/or music video which would it be and why?

    Definately 'Hollywood May Be Dead But Let’s Dance On The Gravestones'. It’s so dark and spooky and catchy I absolutely love it. People have compared the guitar in it to Pink Floyd, Joy Division, The Horrors, it’s fucking insane. I only put up a basic taster version of it and the response was incredible. If I had funding for a video for that I would have so much fun. Loads of 1950s dresses with full skirts, guys dressed as James Dean, fancy chandeliers, champagne, the lot.

3. Do you have any up coming gigs in the UK for yours fans?

    I’m doing a couple of open mics in Edinburgh in the next few months but I’m playing Non Zero’s in Dundee on February 3rd (free entry!) and Cool Cat Club Dundee on March 16th, supporting some fabulous bands, 'Kid Canaveral', 'Man Without Machines', and 'Randolphs Leap', definitely ones to watch.

4. Who have been your biggest inspirations the past 24 months or so?

    24 months is a long time wow! In the last sort of 6 months I really got into 60s girl groups, 'The Shangri-las', 'The Shirelles', etc, so my more upbeat songs maybe reflect that. I’ve always been a huge 'Lana Del Rey' fan, 'Marina and The Diamonds', 'Laura Marling', 'Warpaint', but on 'Hollywood May Be Dead' you can tell that I do listen to a lot of bands like 'The Horrors' considering the guitar, but all the other influences are still there.

5. How's your rise to fame treated you so far, have you found the experience hard like other upcoming singer/songwriters.

    Haha! Not quite a ‘rise to fame’ just yet, wait until I get the EP out and send it to BBC Introducing and hopefully get a wee bit of airplay in Scotland at the least. It’s all been very normal I mean, I write music on the evenings, I go to school during the day, I do the odd gig at the weekend, it’s genuinely not anything abnormal. I’ve been recognised a magic number of three times now! Once in a pub/music venue bathroom (I wasn’t even playing so that was a nice surprise!), once in Starbucks in Newcastle and once in a shoe shop in Glasgow. I haven’t got much pressure on me just now but once the EP is out then I imagine I will feel a certain amount of pressure to follow it up with something even better.

6. What was it like being in a recording studio while recording the music for your EP?

    AMAZING. So much fun, words cannot describe it. My sound recorder was a star, full of stories about seeing amazing bands live and we had some good chats in between recording about 'Melodys Echo Chamber', 'Tame Impala', 'Pond', and generally cool bands. It’s all good fun until your fingers start bleeding due to excessive guitar playing.

7. Lastly, any final words for your fans or those thinking of writing music?

    To my fans I say THANK YOU for listening and sharing my music around and actually thinking I have any talent whatsoever. To people who want to start writing music, I say, DO IT, write about whatever you want, using whatever instrument you want, music comes from the soul!!! And don’t think there’s anything stopping you if you don’t know how to play or write because I taught myself and I’m not in a terrible position right now! Also, my EP will be out sometime in late February/March and it will be available to buy either on CD or MP3 on Bandcamp for £4!
